30 Days Of Genius Blog: Sir Mix-A-Lot

This interview has been the most pleasant surprise so far. I only knew him as the “Baby Got Back” guy, but he is so much more.

I have taken his interview on 30 Days of Genius with Chase Jarvis, extracted the information, and used it to answer common questions by readers just like you, who are looking to take their lives to the next level, or at least a different level than the one they are on.

Please enjoy.

How Can I Be Great At Something?

The first step is you have to WANT something.

This takes some serious self-reflection, because you want to make sure YOU want it. Too many people “like” what they think they are supposed to, and end up unhappy. I started out messing with gadgets and electronics, and it opened doors to everything else. You run in to danger when the foundation is not set on something solid, on something that is truly you, tied to who you are.

Once you figure out what that something is that you want, you can start honing in on your identity. When you are growing up, you don’t really have a sense of who you are. You try on different hats. Some fit, some don’t. Some are good, some get you in trouble. As you have these experiences you start cutting out the things you know are not you so you can focus on the things that are you.

Everyone has a calling. There is something out there that you are supposed to do. You fight it, because different is uncomfortable, especially when you are younger. You are looking for a cookie cutter, easy approach to life. Fight this. There is something out there, you just need to find it. The more you do, the more you explore, the more you create, you start finding things you are good at, things you really enjoy, and that’s where greatness lies.

After I Find That “Something,” What Do I Do?

1. Talk to all the successful people you know.

It doesn’t matter what field they are in, success is success is success. There are bits and pieces that you can take from everyone around you and apply it.

One thing that I found in my discussions is work was work, but it was also leisure. Work is what they loved to do. From the outside it looked like they worked too much. From the inside, they were having a blast. All of that comes from my answer to question one. When you find that something, it changes everything.

2. Work hard.

Our life is our habits, and our habits are our life. Get in to the habit of busting your butt. Chances are you won’t have much money at the beginning, and that’s ok. One thing that I found, but didn’t realize until I got there, was that necessity breeds creativity. When I didn’t have much, I had to work with what I had available to me. Working with different sounds and equipment, taking on tasks because I didn’t have money to hire someone (like MCing my songs, not what I was looking to do. But look what happened!). Once I “made it” and had all the gear I could ever want, I got lazy. I wasn’t as creative. And my work suffered. Appreciate the creativity you will have to develop when you are starting out, when you are striving to make something from nothing. Remember that feeling for later.

Don’t let the amount of work deter you from your dream. If it was easy to be successful, everyone would be successful. Hard work is preparation for a lucky day. Get yourself ready!

Expose your work to as many people as possible, and expose yourself to as much work as possible. It is hard to get a true scope of your ability level until it is compared to other peoples’ work. I am not saying compare your work to others, but compare it (if you know what I mean). I thought we were killing it until I did shows with NWA. It took my vision for what I could be and wanted to be to a whole new level. Without it I would still be thinking small. Exposure forces you to think outside yourself, to something you didn’t even know you could be. You HAVE to give yourself that opportunity.

3. Be you.

No matter what level you get to, stay connected to the real you, the old you. Success can be the nail in your coffin. There is a lot of work that comes after that, but you need to be grounded in who you are.

Knowing who you are will help you pass on things that don’t fit you and focus on the things that are you. Success comes with new opportunities. Low hanging fruit and big paychecks will be tempting.

You need to make sure you are focusing on the long game. What is your brand? How are you going to grow that brand? Expand your name? Be thinking of that from day one. Chasing the dollar will only lead to heartbreak (and bank account-break).

Success

Once you gain success, you need to figure out how you did it. When you are coming up you are trying anything. Once you reach a certain point, you need to look back and evaluate how you got there, so you can recreate it.

Connecting with the real you will also keep you hungry. Success can breed laziness. Once you are there, success will be much harder to come by. Laziness is a success killer. You have to keep in the chase. You have to keep wanting. Keep striving. You need the journey. That’s the truly satisfying part of it.

Never forget that no matter what your level of success, you didn’t do it alone. Some people will have bigger parts than others, but it is a collective. Never forget those people. Forgetting them is forgetting yourself.

Quotes

“If you are comfortable with your success you won’t have it very long. Remain hungry.”

The Hardest Thing To Teach

Part of the reason why I write is to force myself to lay out my philosophies on life for my daughter.

Not to be morbid, but we are all going to die one day. When that is, no one knows. The more I write, the more she will have for later, (if we don’t get the chance to do it while I am still here).

That’s it.

That’s my big secret.

This is all so she has everything in writing. All the advice I want to give her, but might never get the chance.

One Thing

There are certain things I want to teach her, qualities I want her to have. Things I know will allow her to be an awesome adult. Kill it at work, be a great mother, a wonderful wife, and a good human being. Things like: grit, hard work, humility, compassion, insight, reflection, etc. Like any parent, I want my daughter to be amazing.

The thing I want her to learn the most, the one that will allow her to open up all of those other qualities is, I think, the hardest one to accomplish: Not caring what other people think. I mean ZERO regard for what other people think.

Why is this so hard?

Because it is a precarious balance between self-awareness, humility and ego.

She has to be able to not care what people think because she is so self-aware, so observant, so well-thought-out, so intentional, and so sure of herself, that she know exactly what she is doing and why she is doing it, even if it doesn’t necessarily make sense to other people.

Not worry about others’ perception at all.

But it has to come from a place of power not weakness.

Three Types Of Not Caring

1. The Egomaniac
2. The Pre-Emptive Defensive
3. The Rock

The first two are extreme examples. I think most of us fall in to a combination of the two, which usually manifests itself as ego. We shoot ourselves in the foot by acting either too big or too small in a given situation. We are either blindly over-confident or feeble in our abilities, and that eventually bites us in the a**. We either don’t try at all, don’t take the chance when we have the opportunity, don’t speak up when we should, or get in to something we have no business being in and getting b**** slapped. Not literally of course. Well, maybe literally in some cases.

The Egomaniac: You all know people like this. They think they are always right (in a bad way), they can’t handle hearing no, they remove people from their lives that disagree with them, they are narcissistic, probably run through friends regularly, always mad at someone, generally not fun to be around. It’s all about them, all the time.

Being an egomaniac is not synonymous with failing, but how you win is just as important as winning. If you win because you are a prick, and don’t listen to anyone else, you may be successful, but I guarantee you will not be as successful as you could be. These people, generally not self-reflective, not great listeners, which means they are not good collaborators, have a ceiling. They can only go so high because of their ego.

The Pre-Emptive Defensive: The best way I can describe this is the gothic punk rocker in the movie Big Daddy. He walks around in all black, sticking out like a sore thumb, confidence in his stride like he gets it and no one else does, but as soon as Sandler’s character calls him on it, “you’re mad at your father, you’re not mad at me,” his whole façade crumbles in to a pile of tears.

There are people that are confident and really don’t care what you think, and there people that try to push you away at the beginning because they care about what you think so much, they don’t want to have an honest evaluation. This comes in the form of how you dress, like a “gutter” punk for instance, or how you act. The person that always says something inappropriate and then acts like they are too abrasive for the room is doing the same thing as the person with the Mohawk and studded jacket. Push you away so you can’t evaluate them honestly. They don’t want to take the risk of putting themselves out there and being rejected.

Again, a little more difficult to tell that the egomaniac, but if you keep an eye on them you will understand if it comes from confidence or insecurity. One thing that I look at with punk rockers, if you really are an individual and don’t care what people think, why are you dressing exactly like all the other “anti” establishment punk rockers? I want my punks to look like Bad Religion and NOFX. They could be filling your gas tank, building a computer, or teaching at UC Berkeley. You can’t tell because they aren’t wearing a uniform. Or, they have confidence.

The Rock: This is where we all should aspire to be. This is where I want my daughter. This is all about knowing you strengths and weaknesses. You work from your strengths and bring in people to offset your weaknesses. You know exactly who you are. You have a strong moral character, you understand the work involved in success and are willing to do it, you pick a profession that actually fits you not one that sounds good or looks good, and you put yourself in a place of learning and openness to receive the goodness that is coming your way.

Bottom line is you know who you are. This allows you to connect with things that fit you and to pass on things that don’t. You aren’t swayed by the wind or pushed by the ocean because you are a rock.

You are not going anywhere.

You can listen, evaluate, push away, say no, adjust, learn, respect, and grind. That is a winning combination in any arena.

The Start

It all starts with confidence.

True confidence.

One that is earned through self-reflection, evaluation, discipline, hard work, love, and respect.

One that is earned by taking people and yourself head on, asking the difficult questions, making the difficult sacrifices, and coming out better in the end.

Wouldn’t we all be better because of this?

Shouldn’t we want this for ourselves?

Shouldn’t we want this for our kids?

Then let’s learn it for us so we can give it to them.

It may be the greatest gift you can ever give them: confidence.

Generation Why Not?

Access in America has never been more readily available than it is right now.

You can pretty much do whatever you want whenever you want it.

Write a book?

Make a movie?

Be a photographer?

Singer-songwriter?

Start a business?

Whatever!

Can you think of any legitimate obstacle to doing any of those things that doesn’t make you sound like a total puss?

I sort of lead you to the answer no, but you would have gotten there anyways, I am sure of it.

Some of you are naysayers. You will come up with some totally rare or over exaggerated scenario as to why someone, somewhere, wouldn’t be able to do it, but I am talking in generalities. If you are reading this at all, you either have a phone or computer, or access to one, which means you can do it too.

All of the information you need is at your fingertips, and all the tools you need to create just about anything you want to do is also at said fingertips. Even better, it’s in the same place you got the information from.

Your phone, computer or tablet.

Can you feel the excuses slipping away from you? I hope so.

The Why Generation

I think this the wrong name.

It generates a feeling that they don’t care.

Why should I do this? Why should I do that?

What is really happening is they are, or will be asking, why not?

Why can’t I do this?

Why can’t I do that?

Why do we have to do it that way?

Why can’t we try something different?

It’s not The Why Generation.

It’s The Why Not Generation.

The Fault In Their Stars

The issues that they will face will be the same ones that each of us are facing in this ever-expanding, ever-informing, atom bomb of access to everything you could ever want access to, and all of those things having access to you: self slavery.

We can eat anything we want.

We can read, watch, and consume anything we want.

What have we done with that freedom?

We are fatter than ever, more diabetes than ever, more dependent on the government than ever, and taking less responsibility than ever. On top of all this mess, there is a YUGE population in America that think Donald Trump is the answer to their perceived problems with the economy, their jobs, and their government.

Mr. Grab Them In The Pussy himself.

We are idiots.

Collectively.

Not you, specifically.

Us.

The Longer The Rope The Tighter The Noose

This is the time in history where we need to be more self-aware than ever. More disciplined than ever. More willing to ask ourselves the tough questions and make the changes necessary to max out our potential, than ever. We are a pathetic fraction of what we could be. There is always room for improvement, but so many of us are willing to hover around the 50% (if not lower) mark.

Other questions Generation Why Not needs to ask themselves is: How can this be better? Am I doing my best? Am I putting in the work? Am I in this for the right reasons? Is this the job for me? What are my strengths? (and more importantly) what are my weaknesses? And many, many more.

If they don’t ask themselves those questions, the rope will just get tighter and tighter. They will put themselves in situations they shouldn’t be in, with people they shouldn’t be in them with, and it could prove disastrous.

Don’t just be the “why?” generation.

Be the: Why not? How? When? Where? Which? Who? Generation.

We go as you go.

We are tomorrow as you are today.

Why not?

Have You Got The Minerals?

If you are not a fan of the 2001 Guy Ritchie movie, Snatch, or from England, you may have no idea what I am talking about.

Have you got the minerals?

If it was filmed in America, the question would have been, “do you have the balls?”

I think minerals is much more fitting.

If you look throughout history, the greatest triumphs have come through adversity, pressure, no win situations. We are drawn to them because the parties involved remind us of us. They are a normal person just like you and me, yet they were able to accomplish, produce, and endure so much.

How do they do it?

Could I do it?

Do I have the minerals for something great?

Just like the most precious stones, extreme situations can bring out something we didn’t even know was possible.

Common minerals, pushed, crushed, heated up, cooled down, tossed and turned, chewed up and spit out in the most unbearable situations on the planet produce some of it’s most valuable gems.

Diamonds. Pearls. Rubies. Sapphires.

What does pressure do to you?

How do you handle heat?

What do you do when you are faced with adversity? With chaos? With a situation that melts
everything else around you?

Do you melt with it?

Or do you become something precious?

Shine Bright Like A Diamond

The most valuable natural resources on the planet are nothing but minerals.

Nothing special.

Barely worth their weight.

Maybe you feel like you are nothing special.

Maybe you feel like you are worthless.

But what if you dug deep and found out what you were really made of?

After all, precious stones aren’t anything until they are put under extreme conditions.

The pressure, the heat, and the time cause a complete meltdown of everything around them, but not them.

They have the right minerals.

Those ordinary, common, minerals become diamonds, pearls, rubies, and sapphires. Precious stones worth thousands, millions, even hundreds of millions of dollars. Used to symbolize love, show appreciation, and admire greatness. They are the minerals of kings, and the treasure of queens. The trophies of champions, and the symbols of power.

From nothing to something.

With a little help from life.

Which Mineral Are You?

A Diamond?

It starts as nothing more than an exhale. We give it away 24 hours a day, just breathing. Carbon Dioxide. That’s it. This overly abundant gas, when buried deep in the earth, heated up to 2,200 degrees, squeezed under 725,000 pounds of pressure per square inch, and then thrusted to the earth’s surface to cool, becomes a diamond.

You may think of yourself as ordinary, but what have you overcome? What are you going through now that you are going to overcome?

What does the pressure feel like? Can you take it?

Can you handle 725,000 pounds of pressure? Are you having to handle it right now?

Will you melt down, like all of the others minerals around you? Like other minerals would in your situation? Or are you ready to push to the surface, and let the world see the diamond that have become.

From carbon dioxide to the hardest and most beautiful mineral on earth.

It didn’t break you. It brushed away the ordinary and exposed the extraordinary.

Is it work? Home? Kids? Bills?

You decide how to react. You aren’t like a diamond. You are better. You decide.

What is the pressure? The heat? Is it drinking? Drugs? Gambling? Cheating?

Use it for good. Use it to make yourself better. Remember this pressure, this unbearable heat. Remind yourself of the time you were buried. It didn’t stop you.

And if you are buried right now, focus on coming to the surface. Absorb the heat and pressure, use it to build yourself up.

This is your opportunity for greatness.

This is your success story.

Don’t let it pass by, claiming that the pressure was too much. It is situations like yours that they write novels about, make movies of. Show them you can take it. You are a diamond. Shine bright.

A Pearl?

It all starts with irritation, usually a parasite. It somehow found it’s way in.

How familiar does that sound?

Not everyone can take it. In order for an oyster, mussel or clam to turn this parasite in to something spectacular, it has to be mature.

How familiar does that sound?

You starting to see the connection?

Think of all the things you couldn’t handle when you were younger that you can handle now. Things you learned to deal with, things that don’t irritate you anymore. That only comes through maturity.

Things do not develop overnight. Part of your maturity is the ability to endure over time. It takes 3 years for an irritant to become a pearl. Have you had to endure something for a long period of time?

That takes maturity. That takes patience. The younger you couldn’t have handled it. Hell, there are people that are older than you that couldn’t handle it now! Maturity is not an age, it’s a mindset.

Are you a pearl?

Can you take that irritant, that parasite, and embrace it, cover it, endure it for years, and turn it in to a pearl?

Or are you..

A Ruby/Sapphire?

Rubies and sapphires are made exactly the same. One is red and one is blue. I know the red and blue part (obviously) but not the fact that they were created in the same process. The only difference being chromium for the red, and titanium and iron for the blue.

They go through just as much, are just as precious, but look different.

Think about that for a second.

The common belief is that rubies and sapphires were formed by tectonic plates smashing together, forcing limestone deposits deep in to the earth where the intense heat and pressure metamorphosed the limestone in to sparkly marble. Then molten granite bubbled up in to the marble and metasomatised the stone, leaving behind the gems.

Whew.

Tectonic plates?

Worlds colliding. Earthquakes. Destruction. Fire. Lava. Pushing, pulling, and burying. Then comes
the heat, then comes the pressure, and before it cools down, even more heat.

Has your world fallen apart? Did it feel like it at least? Does it feel like it now?

Did it seem like it would never end? The pressure and heat, coming from all directions, one after the
next?

Maybe you are a ruby.

Maybe you are a sapphire.

Please Take This Away

Bad situations are the breeding grounds for greatness.

Think of what these precious stones would be without the pressure, without the heat, they would be nothing.

If you have gone through something or are going through something, recognize what it can do for you. It can make you the hardest, most beautiful, precious gem on this planet.

Take that thing, that pressure, that irritant, that heat, and use it.

You have the minerals.

How You Will Most Likely F*** Yourself

I see this all the time.

If I am going to create a blog/vlog/podcast about helping people, the more the better, right?

Being in my late 30s, I am starting to see patterns of people around me in my age bracket. One of those patterns is how they are completely f***ing themselves.

I thought I should share it with you.

Stuff

That’s it.

People f*** themselves with stuff.

Houses, cars, clothes, etc.

Stuff.

None of these things are inherently bad.

Then how do they f*** you?

If you are not careful, each “stuff” you purchase is a handcuff, a link in a chain wrapped around your wrists, then your ankles, and then your throat. Then you are f***ed.

The more you buy, the more you are committed to, the more you have to maintain, the more weight on your shoulders, the more pressure to perform, the more pressure to focus on money over happiness, the more you are f***ed.

What I Hear Too Often

“I am not happy.”

“I hate my job.”

“I am never home with my kids.”

But…..

“If I change jobs, I won’t be making as much, I can’t afford the house, the day care, the car, etc.”

Trapped.

Stuck.

F***ed.

You know what happens when you are unhappy? You make everyone unhappy around you. That house becomes your enemy. The bills are your enemy, then the people you are paying the bills for are your enemy. Your family, the thing you are maintaining all this “stuff” for, becomes your enemy.

Is that really where you want to be?

I hope not.

From what I see and hear, it is an awful place to be.

No one wants to be stuck.

No one wants to be trapped.

I hear the same thing every single time, “How in the f*** did I get here?”

We have the best intentions, we are thinking positively, it is what we are supposed to do: get the good job, buy the nice car, and buy the nice house.

The next thing we know, all that “stuff” is a brick in a wall that we have built up around us.

We would never want to be there.

But we do it ALL the time.

How To Avoid All Of This

Purchase as if you made less.

You may have $250,000 household income, but purchase as if you only had $150,000, or even better, $125,000.

Save the rest, but more importantly, don’t lock up the rest in “stuff.”

“Stuff” won’t make you happy.

As soon as you feel trapped, all that “stuff” makes you unhappy. After all, it is the stuff that is trapping you in the first place.

Use your credit cards to build credit, but pay it off each month. Spend what you have, not what you wish you had.

Buy the car that gets you from A to B comfortably, but there is no reason to go overboard. You work hard, you deserve a nice car, but you don’t want to have to work for the car. The car should work for you.

You don’t need to get the biggest house you can afford. Sure you qualify for a $1,000,000 loan, but why not buy a house for $600,000? Maybe it is a foreclosure, so you will make money right after you sign the paper? Or you wait to buy when there is a dip in the market and it will be easier for the property to appreciate in value?

You need to learn how to make money, but you also need to learn how to save money, and how to make money work for you.

Mindset

Look at your job as if you HAD to do it. Would you marry your job? This sounds stupid, but if you had to marry it, would you? And I don’t mean 50% divorce rate marry, I mean old skool, Catholic, you are married until you die, kind of marriage.

Would you do it then?

No flexibility. No new career. No “I’ve always wanted to try this.” Nothing. Just you and that job.

Till death do you part.

Will that work for you?

It wouldn’t work for me.

It doesn’t seem to be working for a large percentage of my age bracket.

It’s time to stop and think before we spend. Before we put those handcuffs on. Before we have to in order to maintain.

Give yourself a buffer, a little bit of breathing room.

So you can exhale.

30 Days Of Genius Blog: Gabby Bernstein

This interview may have been my favorite so far. I didn’t know who Gabby Bernstein was before this, but learning what her mindset is on who we are and what we can be is beautiful. That is the best way I can describe it. Absolutely beautiful.

I have taken her interview on 30 Days of Genius with Chase Jarvis, extracted the information, and used it to answer common questions by readers just like you, who are looking to take their lives to the next level, or at least a different level than the one there are on.

Please enjoy.

Why Do I Have Such A Hard Time All The Time?

Collectively, we are hitting our wits end.

The news and media, the things on our phones, TVs, and radios are driving a toxic culture. Fear, terror, negativity, and chaos are cyclical, and we are in the eye of the tornado. All of these things culminate and hold us down. It’s pressure, it’s a weight, and we feel it whether or not we know where it is coming from.

All of this trauma, this chaos, manifests itself in the physical body. Aches and pains, headaches, poor sleep, irritability, etc. It comes out, and it’s always bad.

How Do I Fix Myself?

Meditation. Love and spirituality. Bring yourself back to yourself.

This allows you to filter everything through love. You come back to love, and it’s a ripple effect. Your life changes because you have changed, your vibration has changed, and the ripple extends out from you to your world, to the people you encounter, and everything changes.

It is not an overnight thing, and it is not an easy thing.

It is something you need to do every day. Just a few minutes a day, every day will help you reorganize and reframe decades of crap, a lifetime of unlearning that must get done in order to move forward.

Consistency wins. Engaging with your spirit daily is inspiring. It is unblocking the goodness that is already inside you, unlearning the fear and chaos that piles on top of you in this toxic culture.

Meditation allows you to clear the space for you to receive. You are stepping away from the crazy, and you are able to breathe. It reorganizes your energy and nervous system, pulls you out of the fight or flight that we live in. It uncovers the present, and presence, allows you to acknowledge the pain, the suffering, the chaos, and deal with it. True power lies in acknowledgement. Pain, unhappiness, suffering, it all has to be acknowledged in order to be remedied.

What Is The Best Way To Start Meditating?

Start with a mantra.

Find your pulse, and repeat “satnam” with the beat of your pulse.

Then take time every morning, 20 minutes, 10 minutes, 2 minutes, it doesn’t matter, just do it every day.

You will lose concentration, but that’s ok, keep coming back. Return to your pulse and the mantra.

The best part of all of this is once you learn the skill, and practice it, it will always work for you. It’s not a cup of coffee, it’s not a pill, or a drink. You never have to chase anything. It is all you, and it works every time. You will always be there, ready to meditate, and ready to center yourself, every single time.

You can’t get that with anything else.

Quotes

“Whatever trauma you face as a child, it dictates the path you take in life: terror, failure, not good enough, etc.“

“Your wounds are the place where the light enters you.”

“You have to have a commitment of growth.”

“Prayer is the medium of miracles.”

“When the time is on you, start, and the pressure will be off.”

“Be in the action.”

The Top Of Your Game

What does success mean?

What does it look like?

How do you know when you are on the top of your game?

Ironically, I have the perfect example of individuals being on top of their game.

In fact, they are on the top of the top of their game.

And not ironically that I have an example, ironically because of who the two people are.

Gary Vaynerchuk & Bill Belichick

Uh, me squeeze me?

Uhhh, a baking powder?

Gary Vee and Billy Bee?

Oh yeah.

Gary Vaynerchuk (@garyvee) and Bill Belichick are one and the same.

One does football.

One does business.

(I don’t need to explain which is which do I?)

Both are extremely successful.

Both are machine-like in their work ethic and study.

Both focus on getting better and stronger.

Both leave failures or shortcomings in the past where they belong, focusing on the future.

How Did This Even Cross My Mind?

Good question.

I am a huge fan of Gary Vaynerchuk (who, ironically is a Jets fan. Sorry bud). I read his books, listen to his keynotes, and study his social media strategies. His knowledge of business and consumer behavior is so on point, he can take situations at random, and be able to pull out a comprehensive plan for success on the spot.

He loves Q&A at his keynotes. Why? Because he doesn’t need to plan out an entire speech to bring immense value to a room full of people. He studies the group he is going to be speaking to, uses his foundational knowledge, and is able to change lives one question at a time, one person at a time, at random, in every room he walks in to.
Total flexibility.

He takes what you have, and can use it.

He takes what you don’t have, and uses that too.

His ability to maneuver is not unlike a football coach, without his Hall Of Fame QB, or his backup QB, or his Hall Of Fame tight end, and still going 3–1. A situation where other teams implode, he continues to thrive.

Total flexibility.

He takes what you have, and he manipulates it with what he has.

He takes what you don’t have, and exploits it.

The only difference between these two is Gary Vee uses his powers for good. Billy Bee uses his powers to dominate the NFL for the last 15 years. I’m not saying he is using his powers for evil, but there are a lot of people he makes unhappy every season, Gary Vee included.

Both show you how to do it.

Both have been doing it for years.

But no one can do it like them.

Belichick does the same thing on the field that GaryVee does in meetings, during Q&As, and with his clients at VaynerMedia. When you know something inside and out the way these guys do you are able to adjust and adapt it to various situations and scenarios, never being out of the game. It doesn’t have to be pretty, it doesn’t have to be perfect. Like the John Lennon quote in The Departed, “I’m an artist, give me a fuckin’ tuba and I’ll get you something out of it.”

Bill Belichick and Gary Vaynerchuk are artists.

All you have to do is give them a fucking tuba.
